The Task:
Students will work in teams of two to research one of the six New York State Explorers that we have discussed in Social Studies class. Each group will be randomly assigned one of the six explorers. From the resources listed on the Resources page, each group must choose two print sources and two internet sources to complete your report. Students must also locate at least six images, pictures, or maps to use in their presentation. They have been taught how to identify copyrighted images and know they cannot use these without the publishers consent. The groups will then complete the Graphic Organizer, including all the required elements listed on the organizer. During the Process each pair will periodically complete the Progress Reflection so the teacher can determine their progress and whether they need assistance. Finally, each team will produce either a PowerPoint presentation, a MovieMaker movie, or a Weebly web page of their own, and links will be added to this site for access by other students, faculty and parents. Their presentation will be graded using the Rubric included on this site. This WebQuest will teach students that a variety of sources should be used when doing research, how to do a web search, how to locate pertinent information, how to incorporate images, pictures and maps into text, and how to cite sources.
